Refreshing! Candied grapefruit & white rose.
The Malagousia 2020 from Lykos Winery has a pale yellow to greenish colour.
On the nose the bouquet opens with candied grapefruit, white rose and wet stone. There is also a sweet/bitter note of fresh almond.
The mouthfeel is round yet a nice freshness lights it up. On the mouth the citrus note is back, it finishes with a touch of bitter almond.
The finish is medium long.
Note that the wines sampled here were provided to me for free, by the producer or a stockist of theirs.
Malagousia (aka Malagouzia) is a white Greek wine grape.
In the past it risked extinction. In fact, Malagousia was resurrected only in the 70s and 80s did thanks to Vassilis Logothetis, a professor of oenology, and Vangelis Gerovassiliou, one of his students.
If the Gerovassiliou sounds familiar, it’s because Vangelis is now the owner of one of the best known wine estates in Greece. Of course he produces his own Malagousia!Link to here...
