Tasting Notes
The 2013 Spiegel Grand Cru from Dirler-Cadé needs some time to open up. When it does it shows its complexity with some sweetness, almond paste and fruity aromas.
The mouthfeel of this Riesling Grand Cru is crisp and clean.
On the mouth there is a vibrant, peppery acidity that extends the long aftertaste. It also shows hints marmalade-y botrytis. This wine is fresher and more citrussy than the Kitterlé but also less dense.
Good Spiegel Rieslings are characterized by notes of aromatic herbs and are slow to develop. The greatest Spiegel Rieslings require at least 15 years to finally show all they’ve got. This Rieslings develop slowly, eventually showing also aromatic herb notes among other aromas.
Unfortunately, most people drink them up much sooner. We are keep our bottles in the cellar to try them when they are passed their 15th birthday!

Dirler-Cadé
Dirler-Cadé estate is located in Alsace. It was first created as Dirler Wines by Jean Dirler in the village of Bergholtz in 1871. Still family run, the estate was named Dirler-Cadé in 2000 after the winery took over Ludivine’s Cadé parent’s plots of vines. The business operates 18 hectares (43.2 acres) of vines, 42% of which are classified Saering, Spiegel, Kessler or Kitterlé Grand Cru.
